This year has been an absolutely roller-coaster ride; soaring highs and deep dives, transitions and moves. It was a jam packed year for sure.
With that, I wanted to take some time to reflect on what went well, what didn’t, and everything that happened in between.
The Highlights – What Went Well
2022 is a major transitional year for me.
Traveled a lot; for both personal and business. Looking at my travel list, I did a lot this year. Here’s everywhere I went in 2022:-
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A visit home is always something that I look forward to.
- Chicago, IL – A quick weekend getaway trip with my wife.
- Lexington, KY – A quick road-trip stop to visit the Ark Encounter, life-size Noah’s Ark, while heading south to Louisiana.
- New Orleans, LA – A spontaneous road-trip to visit my brother.
- Pigeon Forge, TN – Another quick road-trip stop. Did a couple hikes at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
- Sacramento, CA – 3 separate visits to house hunt before finally moving to the area.
- St. Louis, MO – A 2-days business trip.
Career advancement. I had a great opportunity for a career advancement and decided to jump on it, leaving Iowa, a place I’ve called home for 17 years.
I delegated my email inbox. I experimented with delegating my email inbox this year and it was surprisingly fun. Something to think about going into 2023!
Stop doing stuff that just doesn’t matter. I’ve become much better at figuring out what’s essential and eliminating what is not. This has applied to both my business and personal life.
The Lowlights – What Didn’t Go Well
2022 wasn’t entirely pleasant; there were some rough spots along the way.
The Covid-19 pandemic is not over. This made international travel very difficult during the first half of the year with all the travel restrictions in place. Not to mention, infections and deaths are still occurring every day around the globe.
My cardio fitness greatly declined. With all the travel that I’ve been doing, I can barely run 2 miles now. I need to improve my fitness level for 2023.
Labor shortages is making it difficult to find good staff. I’ve upped our pay offering by 30% and still, it seems like no one wants to work.
I utterly failed to complete any of my projects planned for 2022. Now that I am finally settled in the new environment, I am hoping that this will get accomplished in 2023.
What’s Next – What I’m Looking Forward To In 2023
Putting a big focus on personal growth, building relationships and community. As I focus on this, I also need to focus more on the present, and sticking to a set schedule so I can spend more quality time with my family.
Improve my cardio fitness. I need to get back to the level of discipline that I used to have when it comes to this. No more procrastination now that I am finally settled in my new place.
Executing my projects on my list. Something that I am really looking forward to is executing the projects planned for 2022 this year.
Overall, I had a blast in 2022. Going into 2023, I’m feeling blessed and excited for what’s to come.
